Lockpicking and Traps

Is it possible to do a rewrite of the box part of the treasure system without affecting the rest of the system? In other words can a trap and lock system be coded and then merged with the current box system without doing a massive rewrite of the treasure system? I'm sure there are other projects that people are more interested in but I'm writing this because my 7th level traveler can disable all the traps and that seems wrong.

Chances are it would require and entire system rewrite.
