Yah -- I know <chuckle> broke something when I fixed the ranged combat bug yesterday. Will fix it this morning.

This should all be fixed now -- there was some quirkiness in the code that's been ironed out. A creature you advance should no longer suddenly be advancing towards you while you stand still.

However, if you engage a creature in combat (or attack it from ranged), it will undoubtedly react violently and begin to advance towards you -- even if you are moving towards it. The result, of course, is that you will get to melee faster because you are both advancing towards each other.

Examples:

>advance goblin
You begin to move towards the green goblin to engage it in combat.
The green goblin begins to move towards you to engage you in combat.
You are close to the green goblin, but not within melee range.
The green goblin closes to melee range on you.

>advance goblin
You begin to move towards the green goblin to engage it in combat.
You are close to the green goblin, but not within melee range.
The green goblin begins to move towards you to engage you in combat.
You close to melee range on the green goblin.

Neither are bugs. In the first example, the goblin got to melee on me before I did on it. In the real world, it just means you both got to melee on each other, but it was faster and reached where you were before you reached where it was. In the second example, the opposite is true.

Please let me know if there are any more problems with the combat engagement/advancement system. Thanks again for your reports!

Nah just kinda like the fog of war- you thought you saw it that way!

But I like the variety- is much more realistic- who gets first swing? Not always the same- yup makes a lot more sens. :D
