Excuse me? No EXPERIENCE gained?

Postby Segarion » Aug 24, 2003 (11:42 am)

Got a question on combat experience. It appears that we don't get experience during some situations listed below

1. Successfully avoid or dodge a spell. No experience gained for dodging it.

2. No armor experience gained when we DO get hit by a spell.

3. The enemy can't penetrate our armor("A tribal hunter swings his greatclub at you but is unable to penetrate your armor.") No armor experience gained for the hit.

Just wondering if these are how it should be or being worked on. The reason I brought this up is because in the case where we do get partially hit on a normal attack from a critter, we still gain armor point for taking the hit.

Let me know.

From what I understand, certain creatures only teach skills up to a certain level, you may have a high enough skill ranking to not learn very well from the hunters or hounds, and should move up to skeletons, or specters, depending on youre ability...I'm not exactly sure if this is what the situation is, but it could be you have just grown out of them.

Actually, I know about that fact. But that has no effect on it. I gained no experience in those situations when hunting a critter that DID give me experience from normal parries, dodges, blocks, etc.

I'd agree. I've been closely monitoring my skills progression. When a critter swings at me and I parry or dodge I receive exp for the parry (or dodge) and a little for the effort towards armor. However, when a critter "doesn't penetrate your armor", I'd assume my skill / construction of armor has kept him from doing my bodily harm. This would lead to a more learned way of positioning my armored body to avoid damage, thus increasing my skill, no? Just a new guy's thoughts :P

Exactly, this is the part that really bugs me. In either case, there has to be some sort ot experience gain. Getting hit by the magic spell or taking the hit and not being damaged. I wish a GM would shed some light on this. If this is how it's gonna be then an explanation of why would great. Or if it's something that's being worked on then it would be nice to know this so I can stop beating my head over it.

Short and sweet: I'm working on it.
